In a series of articles for Business Insider, Ramsay tries seven health-care startups:
- Warby Parker: the place to order trendy eyeglasses online
- Curology: lets users take a short quizz and get personalized skincare products by mail
- Tia: a women's health and wellness clinic that charges an annual membership fee
- Simple Contacts: renew your prescription and order contacts online
- One Medical: another members-only primary care clinic with on-site and virtual care options
- DNTL: swanky walk-in dental bar with spa-like decor and massage chairs
- SmileDirectClub: whiten your teeth at home with a device that plugs into your phone
Did these companies live up to the hype? Some did and some didn't. Overall, the luxury of convenience — or just plain luxury — came with a higher price tag and a less personal approach, proving that disruption for it's own sake isn't always a prescription for meaningful innovation.
