October is breast cancer awareness month and more
October is known for National Breast Cancer Awareness month and Domestic Violence Awareness month, but there are many other observances that may give you an opportunity to raise awareness among your patients.
Breast cancer and domestic violence resources
About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12.4%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. You can visit the NIH website to download resources to help you promote the importance of breast cancer screening.
Domestic violence has health impacts that stretch far beyond acute or immediate physical injuries. According to a report by the World Health Organization, domestic violence can cause chronic health problems and depression even years after the abuse ends. Don’t forget that domestic violence screening is covered with $0 cost-sharing to members on many health plans, including NHP.
