Your provider profile is important, but is it up to date?
What does Consumer Reports tell its 9 million members to do first when searching for a new provider? Check their insurer’s online directory.
In “How to Find a Good Doctor,” Consumer Reports outlines 9 steps for anyone who’s searching for a new provider. Step #1 is to search doctors in your health insurance network – and they even include a note about making sure the provider’s information is up to date.
If it’s been a while since you updated your information with the insurance companies you work with, you should. Take a look at your listing in the provider directories (our is here) and make sure all the information is accurate, including:
Contact Information, Addresses and Website
Don’t forget to check both your mailing and office address. Also, make sure we have your email address on file. That way, we can send you important updates quickly.
Network Participation Status
Let us know if you have any questions about the networks you’re contracted to participate in.
Availability to See New Patients
One of the most frequent complaints from patients is that the provider they called wasn’t taking new patients. Let us know if you’re panel is closed.
Group Practices
If you’re in a group practice, is the information accurate for each individual provider in your group practice?
How do I update my information if it’s wrong?
There are three ways to let us know if you need to make a change to the information in your provider profile
